Mamie's Tribute
at American Cinematheque
April 22, 2000

Johnny Grant, the mayor of Hollywood, introduces me after the showing of "Guns, Girls, & Gangsters. Johnny and I go back to when I was a 15-year old usherette at the Pantages Theater. He said some very nice things about me (then and last night), and I love him dearly.

Will the Thrill and Monica the Tiki Goddess came from San Francisco where you can see them at the Parkway Theater.

Actress Sandra Giles came to say hello.

Waiting for me with a bouquet of flowers was Skip E. Lowe, my dearest friend and confidant. To my left is my long-time girlfriend, Joan Copeland.

Fellow glamour-girl June Wilkinson lent her support too. June and I did two movies together.

Hollywood super-manager and friend, Jay Bernstein.

After the movie, I sat for a Q & A session with the packed house. The flowers you see next to me came from Tony and Jill Curtis who were not able to be there. The note from Tony read: "Since I couldn't be there, this will remind you that I was your first." Now, did he mean co-star or what?

Anyone who has looked at my web site knows super-actress & model, super-photographer, and super-girlfriend Julie Strain.

Perry didn't waste any time meeting Julie's new protege Arban Ornelas.

I tried to sneak out...

...but the fans wouldn't let me. This is a Dutch fan, Roy Von Hindermann, who cancelled a trip to Vietnam and came to the U.S. for my tribute. Thanks, Roy, for the delicious chocolates. Thomas and I ate them before we went to bed.

The night wouldn't have been complete without a hug from my agent, smart, sassy, & sexy Debbie Deuble of the Don Buchwald Agency.

After the tribute we went to Spago, our favorite eatery, where celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck prepared his special soft-shelled crab and salad for me.

After dinner toy-boy Thomas and I said good night to Janet Edwards (Vince's widow)...

and good night kisses...

...and one last hug to Skip. This has been a night I'll always remember. My thanks to all of you who came. All my love.

Here's a photo just sent to me by Don Wilson, who looks more like Elvis than Elvis did. Don just started his own Mamie Fan Club page on Yahoo. Thanks, Don--for coming to the tribute, for the photos, and for everything.
