Good Press, Circa 1953 & Beyond

An early photo layout in the Chicago Sunday Tribune, July 26, 1953 of the newly minted star, Mamie Van Doren. Shot in the backyard of my parents home in the San Fernando Valley, I am so young, so naive, and barely dry behind the ears, and I have no idea of the tides and storms and joys ahead.

Here is a fine example of studio packaging. Marilyn and I were compared, feature for feature, like any other consumer products. The competition that this implies was not real for us--most of the time.

Three Nuts in Search of Some Press

A rare press photo of Jayne, Tommy Noonan, and me at the "Three Nuts in Search of a Bolt" wrap party I threw. I invited Jayne and she came with her chihuahua. Special thanks to Danny Mathews in the U.K. for finding this rare pic. Smooches, Danni!

Weird Press

Here's one of those eerie intersections of life and fate. Submitted for your approval: a man, vacationing in Italy, circa 1958, reading Tempo Magazine with a picture of me on the cover. What really gives this the Doo-Dooo-Dooo-Dooo Factor, is that forty-five years later it was discovered by my young friend the fabulous cartoon artist, Elliott Mattice, in his girl friend's grandmother's family photo album. OooooweeOoooo. Many thanks, Elliott!
